Kids these days...

Matthew 15 Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat.” He answered them, “And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? For God commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God,” he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God. You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:
“‘This people honors me with their lips,
    but their heart is far from me;
in vain do they worship me,
    teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”

Jesus had a heart for children. He demonstrated that in his attitude and actions, as well as the way he used them to demonstrate faith. Here he has strong words about how "children" show lack of respect for their parents.  But the "children" he refers to are not the "under 18" kind. He is referring to us as who are adult children who figure out ways to not show respect to our parents.  Since God has provided parents as His representatives, to show and tell the way to Him, He holds them in high regard. Whenever we do anything, as young or adult children, to show them a lack of respect, we are disrespecting Him as well.  The "kids" Jesus was speaking about, and the ones who have the biggest problem today, are the older ones, who never seem to grow up, always wanting what they want, no matter how it harms others, including their parents.  Kids these days: what kind are you?
