But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. (Galatians 5:16-18 ESV)
If you haven't noticed, there is a battle going on in your life, and in the church. It is a daily battle between the sinful flesh with self-driven ideas and passions versus the Holy Spirit Who wants to see us living victoriously in Christ. As followers of Christ, we have Him within, and He is the rightful ruler, who should be directing our lives. When we submit to His control, our lives, our relationships and our state of mind benefit. When we instead submit to sin and self, it has disastrous results for us and all around us. May we have the mind of Christ on this: The Holy Spirit is our rightful ruler.
