Deuteronomy 5:15 You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
16 “‘Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
As the people of Israel were preparingu to enter the Promised Land after the Wilderness Wanderings, God reminded them of things we refer to as "The Ten Commandments." Wrapping up the first four is the command for sabbath, a reminder that God brought them out of a terrible past and gave them a new beginning. We need that "at least once a week reminder." It helps us stop and look back. As we remember, we need to stop and look where we are, as parents/children/combination of the two. It gives us context for examination. We should, and are able to, look and see "if it is going well" in our lives. This helps us see if we are going off course on a path that will shorten our days in the land. Have I forsaken the faith of my fathers? Have I "corrected the path" that they headed down in error? Am I leading my family, and faith family, down the right road of God's will and blessing? How goes your journey?
