Lesson 9: God Delegates

Now Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, “Gird up your loins, and take this flask of oil in your hand and go to Ramoth-gilead. When you arrive there, search out Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in and bid him arise from among his brothers, and bring him to an inner room. Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head and say, ‘Thus says the Lord, “I have anointed you king over Israel.”’ Then open the door and flee and do not wait.”...
11 When Jehu came out to the servants of his master, they said to him, “Is all well? Why did this mad fellow come to you?” And he said to them, “You know the fellow and his talk.” 12 And they said, “That is not true; tell us now.” And he said, “Thus and so he spoke to me, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord, I anoint you king over Israel.’” 13 Then in haste every man of them took his garment and put it under him on the bare steps, and they blew the trumpet and proclaimed, “Jehu is king.” (II Kings 9)
In chapter after chapter we see God's seal of approval on the ministry of Elisha. Whether people come to him, or God sends Him to people, His word comes true.  Like, Elijah before him, God also delegated tasks to Elisha which he then in turn delegated to others, who did it more effectively than he could.  This messenger attracted the attention of Jehu's servants in the odd way he came and went, which prompted them to ask what the message was.  Then, upon hearing the answer they responded in classic form.  Does it ring a bell? They were laying their garments at his feet, proclaiming him king.  Fast forward several centuries and we see the disciples of Jesus doing the same thing. They, and the people of the crowd became God's delegates, saying things in such a way that it attracted the ears of many.  It was effective communication at its best.  Who is God using today to send messages to you? Check out His Word. Pay attention to His people.  Listen to His Spirit.  He's got a message for you.
