Put On, Put Up, Put out

Colossians 3:12 Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Paul was consistent in describing the lifestyle of a follower of Christ, especially as it relates to how we interact with others within the Body of Christ, the household of faith.  We are to put on these basics of love, humility, patience, etc.  This is not putting on a show, but determining the foundation for how we are going to approach one another.  We are also to put up with a lot, realizing that just like us, other members of the household do not always speak or act perfectly, and we need to demonstrate the patience of forgiveness of God toward them.  Finally, we are to put out of our mouths those things that glorify God and pour into the spiritual growth of one another. We need to take responsibility for what comes out of our mouths (and the internal pool from which it flows), and not blame external forces (circumstances or the actions and words of others) for our less than holy responses.  It's a new day. Put on what will bless those around you. Put up with their Monday morning mumbling. Put out what will make their day.
