Ephesians 4:11-14 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
What do you think of when you hear the "C" word? In context here, Paul is talking about church. Right of the bat, he says that God "gave". Church is where we receive. And, to be sure, we often think in terms of "what we get" out of church. But maybe God wants to give us something other than what we're looking for. He wants to give us what we need to grow up, be mature and stable, and to help one another do the same. Every time we "do church", in whatever forms that may be, we should be like kids in the middle of a room with gifts, wonderfully anticipating what is in each box, filled with comfort and encouragement by the atmosphere of grace and security, prepared to go out and share some of what God has given us. May we view church as God's gracious gift center, where He pours out His blessings on His people gathered together.
