1 Corinthians 12:12-14 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many.
When God makes us new in Christ, He also makes us a part of Christ's body, the Church. Just like He made us members of a family when we were born, He made us part of His family when we are born again. He has created the Church just like He has created us. In context, Paul is telling us we are all needed. Any dismemberment or disfigurement or disease of the organs affects the whole body, not just us. God made it that way, so let's not mess up what He made. Let us function as His body, unified, caring about the other members, each doing our part.
