13 “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when the plowman shall overtake the reaper
and the treader of grapes him who sows the seed;
the mountains shall drip sweet wine,
and all the hills shall flow with it.
14 I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel,
and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them;
they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine,
and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit.
15 I will plant them on their land,
and they shall never again be uprooted
out of the land that I have given them,”says the Lord your God.
(Amos 9:13-15)
On the one hand, as noted yesterday, there is this "just passing through" part of this life that is unsettling. Israel had many peoples "pass through" to plunder them and leave life unsettled. They also had times they were "pulled away" from the promised land, scattered, and without stability. Whereas some of us find travelling to different places as exciting and adventurous, there is always something deeply satisfying about "settling in" at home. If one travels a lot, it is impossible to keep a garden or keep up with all involved in caring for a home. God promises a day when His people will all be "settled in" and there will no longer be unwelcome guests "passing through", and there will forever be that sense that all is what He intends it to be. That's what we're looking for!
