9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 10 I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. (I Corinthians 1)
It is no secret that the Church at Corinth had some problems, not the least of which was the inability to get along with one another. It's not that they did not have fellowship. In fact - they had fellowship centered on the wrong things or people. They loved to eat (you mean that isn't fellowship?) but really did not care who it was they were eating with. And they loved to form around a person, but were not careful about Who that Person was. They forgot is was all fellowship around the Son, not a table or a "flesh-and-blood) person. They were way too much into the flesh, and not the Spirit. How can we "play it safe"? Make sure anything we call "fellowship" really is focused on Christ - that all our eyes are on Him.
