Focus on UNSELFISH

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Philippians 2
Paul's call to community here is one of the most memorable statements we find on how we are to perceive ourselves in the body of Christ. We are to focus on Him, and what He has done for each and every follower. And if there is one word we can use to describe Him, it is UNSELFISH. He did it freely for us. As we look at our lives individually, and at ourselves communally, our biggest problem is selfishness.  We do not "Look to the interests of others." We think only about ourselves, which is totally contrary to Who Christ is and what HE is like. As long as we think selfish, we cannot think Christ.  He has not put us into His Body, or His local community just for us.  If you are in a community of 100 people, 99% of the reason you are there is NOT about you - it is how God wants to use you there. As we live unselfishly, we are blessed, ministered to, and grow, but the main reason we are there is to help others grow - for us all to be more unselfish. As you plan your day today, be intentional about being unselfish.
